Rainy Day

It's a rainy day today, so we are taking it easy.  I (sort of) feel sorry for all the people going to the U2 concert here at Magnetic Hill today in the rain, but at least they won't get sunburned. Beckett has been limping on and off for a little while now and I have been trying to keep him from running around too much, since he seems to forget the limp every so often.  It's also a long weekend in New Brunswick so one lazy day is OK.  Veil is going to snuggle down with the afghan her nanny knit and read what everyone else is up to on the Saturday Pet Blogger Hop.

Adventures in Daddy Sitting

So Mr. J has been on vacation this week and next week too.  My vacation was cancelled due to some changes at the office, "sigh".  Beckett, Veil and Maddy have been trying hard to keep him entertained while I'm at work.  Usually he is gone to work when we get up in the morning and I get home from work before him so they really aren't that used to him being around with them alone.   I guess today Veil decided it would be a good day to get the tummy troubles that only grass-eating can fix, in her opinion, and then proceeded to make a production of gagging and hurling it up.

Mr. J - Veil, eating that is gonna make you puke you know.
Veil - Of course I know, why do you think I'm eating it...?
Mr. J - Well at least do it outside, please.
Veil - We will see, sometimes it makes me feel better if I do it on the carpet.

Then he took Beckett out to have a pee.

Mr. J. - Beckett, your foot, buddy, you're peeing all over it!
Beckett - Whaatt?  I thought the grass was just wet...
Mr. J - Didn't you notice it was warm and just that one foot?
Beckett - Mama never calls me out on that, we just pretend it didn't happen and move on.

and in the midst of it, Maddy decided she might be getting anxious...

Mr. J - Maddy, do you want your thundershirt on?
Maddy - Do you know how to do it?
Mr. J - It's a shirt with velcro, I think I can figure it out.
Maddy - I think a few treats and some carrots would fix me right up, instead. You get the treats and I'll stand here looking miserable while you feed them to me.

I would still rather be home with them...

Just Veil

Sometimes it's nice to run naked in the yard.

Although I do love the fancy collars, a greyhound neck is beautiful on its own!

Play Time

We weren't doing anything...We certainly weren't playing "spin on the bed", honest!

Maddy's New Shirt

Hi, It's Veil again today!  Mama went to the pet store on Friday and came home with a new shirt for Maddy.  There was nothing for me in the bag. I check twice just to make sure.  Mama said it for Maddy's anxiety.  I was not impressed, I like new clothes too.

Especially when she stood around showing it off.

Me: Come on Veil, you know Maddy gets upset sometimes and it's no fun for her...

Veil: You're not going get a smile out of me today, unless we take a drive to the pet boutique.

Treat Time Again

Hi, Veil here at the command, just the way I like it!  We were all out of the peanut butter pumpkin treats Mom made last time so it was imperative that she get something going in the oven this early this morning, at least to us three anyway.  I don't know about you but I don't like to see the bottom of the treat container. Today she said she was going to make up something new for us to try, I was kinda worried because treats are important you know. But I will say I like the new recipe, Banana Blueberry Oatmeal.

While they were in the oven, we got brushed outside.  This hot weather is making us shed more than a greyhound normally would, so better to take it off outside than on the just de-haired couch.  It going to be a hot day today so we are relaxing inside.

You can see my indent in the dog bed, but I'm not there...

I say if your gonna have a lazy day, might as well do it on the real bed.

A Much Better day!

We just got back from an hour long hike through the new subdivision off of our road.  It's a great place to walk; no traffic and the odd bunny or squirrel to see.

Maddy was feeling back to her normal, happy self today.

Beckett and Veil check out some construction workers...

Maddy was still ready to play when we got home but Veil said she needed to take a break...

and Beckett practiced some downward doga with his favorite red ball.

A Ghost of a Greyhound

I obviously had some setting wrong on my camera when I took this picture of Maddy, but after looking at it, I thought this picture really portrayed what it felt like with her this week...like living with a ghost.  She was there, but not completely.

Oh What A Night!

Well, we had our first really bad thunder and lightning storm of the year last night.  We woke up around 2:30 to no power and Beckett doing the hallway walk, up and down, up and down.  If I had placed a bet on which of our greyhounds would be the one scared during a storm, I would have lost because he was the last one I would have guessed.  He finally settled down once the worst of it had passed and Maddy and Veil never moved at all during the storm.  Fast forward a couple hours, all was well at breakfast time and we went back to bed to wait for the power to come on and then Maddy had an anxiety attack and she hasn't come out of it yet. This time she wants OUT of the house and doesn't want to come back in.  It was quite hot in here, I don't know if that had anything to do with it or not but we went out and bought two portable air conditioners today.  Another thunder storm this evening too but at least it should be over before midnight. Veil really amazed me with how well she deals with everything, I don't think I give her enough credit.

Doing the Herbal

Hello everyone, Maddy here.  Mama said I could write the post today cause I was wondering if any other dogs out there have nightmares?  Sometimes I wake up really scared  and nervous like I've had a bad dream.  I take herbal calmer to keep my anxiety in check.  I've come along way since I got here last October but I still have some "episodes" if I don't take my herbal stuff.  When Mama brought me here, I was only supposed to stay until someone else adopted me.  This was supposed to be my foster home. It only took a day or so for Mama and Dad to decide I was staying put and I was happy to hear it.  Dad put a lot of work into helping me get over my fears of men.  I still don't like strange men to speak to me until I get used to them being around; sometimes they can be very forward and I don't appreciate it but what's a girl to do.

Pockets and More Pockets

If you are a dog parent, you will understand what I mean when I say, I need pockets and not those little half pockets you get, but real, deep pockets. I see people out walking with their yoga pants and tank tops and I wonder *where do they keep their stuff* and then I realize, they aren't walking a greyhound (or three). Summer clothes just aren't made for dog walking. Not once but twice last week after being home at noon to take the hounds out, I went back to work with black poops bags (empty of course) sticking out of the waist band of my dresspants. Then when I got home from getting groceries on Saturday, Mr. J asked me "Did you walk around the store like that the whole time??" I had the end of a poop bag sticking out of the back pocket on my shorts! You'd think after the first couple times last week, I'd remember. Besides the bags, you've got to have treats, too. I don't know how many times I've put on a jacket to discover a dried up piece of cheese or stale cookie in my pocket. I guess it's time to dig out the fanny pack and put it to use. Hopefully I'll remember to take that off!

Happy Canada Day and 4th of July Weekend!

Happy long weekend!  Mr. J had to work today so I thought it would be a good time to replenish the doggy cookie jar.

Peanut Butter and Pumpkin Treats

How much longer!!
The left over pumpkin was a big hit with the crowd.
Pumpkin picnic

Clean bowl award goes to Maddy

Then we had a new neighbour come to visit...

New neighbour

And they all just wanted to go down and meet him but no luck getting the gate on the deck opened.  Maybe next time.
If only I was a little smaller!

How does this open anyway?

Are we doing something fun today?

Hope everyone is having some fun this weekend!
