Veil's Take on Christmas
By Miss Veil
So Christmas has come and gone for another year and I can't say that I'm sorry. Oh I know, it's a magical time of year and all that...but there just seems to be a lot of hustle and bustle. I'm really not a hustle and bustle type of girl.
Although it appears like Santa didn't get my message about wanting more time for belly rubs and snuggling on the couch; Mum says not to give up yet. Now that the shopping and cooking and eating and visiting are done, that gift is coming.
Sounds like New Year's Eve is going to the dogs and I couldn't be happier about it.

Merry Christmas Eve!
So, last night Mum decided if she was making Christmas collars for us, time was just about up. I supervised the making of my snow man collar. So far, that's the only one finished. Oh well, sorry Miss Veil and Maddy, maybe next year... I have to be well-dressed 'cause there's a little "collar-loving" girl I'm trying to impress.
We want to wish all our friends a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! To all the hounds out there waiting for homes, we hope 2013 is the year you discover what it feels like to be loved and to have a family to give your love too.

Dear Santa...
Miss Veil here again...
I know this may be a little late and all, but we hounds here have had a meeting and decided to change what we asked you for...please apologize to the elfs for us in advance.
I know I asked for a new collar and coat and Maddy asked for a coat that doesn't make her go electric and a octopus and Beckett asked for the loudest squeaky toy you had and a new bouncy ball...but perhaps some other houndies could use those??
The only thing that we all decided that we wanted to leave on our list is "time". Time to spend curled up with Mum and Dad, getting belly rubs and ear scratches. Time to play "find me" inside when its too cold out and walks in the snow when its not, and time just being cozy and relaxed and most importantly, all together.
If you could see fit to maybe drop the other things we asked for at a shelter somewhere, I'd would be grateful for that.
love
Miss Veil, Beckett and Maddy
P.S. Oh, that sweater that Mum is trying to knit for me...you can probably take that too...although finding a hound that it will actually fit might be too difficult for this short notice.

What's a Diet?
This morning, I was so excited. As soon as mum put my "going to town" collar on, I knew I was going somewhere. Even better, the girls weren't coming with us. Dad drove us, because the road was a sheet of ice.
I went to visit my veterinarian, Dr. Allen. They have a resident cat there, who I didn't bother at all. Then a little white dog escaped from the back office and came running over to visit me. Mum said it was lucky it was me and not the girls.
The needle didn't hurt, I didn't even notice it because Dr. Allen is very good at giving them (and all the lovely treats). My teeth and ears were checked and she listened to my heart and breathing. I got a clean bill of health, (except that I have a little bit of a dirty ear). I could do without the ear cleaning, because that is not my favorite thing, but all in all I'm good. They put me on the scales and I heard Mum say, oh oh! Apparently I've put on a couple pounds, so I may have to cut back a bit.
I guess my idea for this giant size cookie cutter is out then?
It's nice to drive in the car without having to worry about touching Veil or Maddy and them getting annoyed with me.
Lots of room to stretch out today! |
I don't think I'm fat, I'm just big-boned... I will have to ponder this one for awhile. Mum says I won't even notice a 1/4 cup less food... we'll see...

Happy Belated 5th Birthday Maddy!
Not again...
Maddy: Veil, I think totally forgetting my birthday is far worse than what happened to you! But at least I didn't have to endure the birthday hat, like last year!!

Birthday Girl Interrupted!
Remember back when the human-shaming and dog-shaming posts were going on? Mum and I mutually agreed that we would not embarrass each other....but I think I am backing out on that arrangement.
Why you ask? WELL, two weeks ago was my birthday!! I have been patiently waiting for my party, but it has not been forthcoming. I know it's been busy around here, but come on, Mother. You keep telling me that you didn't forget...
So I ask you, is it worse if
(a) someone doesn't remember your birthday at all or
(b) if they know it was your birthday and don't do anything about it?

Behind the Scene
Maddy here today to talk about a little issue I have been having with my Mum.
She seems to be fascinated with my behind, even so far as taking me to the V.E.T. to have them look at it too! Now, I tell you, I am not a fan of having my tail lifted and although I have told her, she insists it is for my own good. I informed them all that it would be better for all concerned if they left me to my own devices, but alas, I was over-ruled.
Maddy: Seriously Mum...get a hobby and stop being so anal about my glands!
Mum: But Maddy, it's not like I'm doing this for fun. You have an infection back there!!
Maddy: So you think showing it off is the way to go? I showed that VET what I've got. Did you notice she had to change her scrubs??? I will get my displeasure across however necessary.
Mum: The medication seems to be working this time, so hopefully your private areas will be private again very soon.

Beckett the bread-winner!
Beckett here again.
During the summer, I entered a photo contest on FaceBook from Global Pet Food Store for a chance to win a year's supply, up to $1,000.00 of Acana / Orijen pet food (which is the brand we eat). It was a Canada Day picture.
This week the UPS man dropped of an envelope containing vouchers for 8 free - 13.1 kg bags of Acana.
Mum says I have to share it with Veil and Maddy. I said OK just as long as they know I am the bread-winner of the family for a few months.
I have also decided to pay it forward. Since we were so lucky; I have been watching for good causes to donate some green papers to.

Gotcha Girls!
Beckett here today to talk a little bit about my two sisters, Veil and Maddy. Today is their "Gotcha Day"!
Now, I will start with Miss Veil...she was here first, even before me. Actually, as she tells it, the reason I am here is because she asked for a sibling.
So then I came into the picture.
Veil discovered the art of looking sweet (notice I say "looking"). She can pretend, but I know different.
Then one day, after a couple years ofenduring enjoying Veil's undivided attention, Mum told us we were going to have a foster sister for a little while til she found a forever home. In my head, I said "sure, Mum...whatever you say..." I knew I was in for double tag-team sisters.
I guess I like having my sisters but the only thing that would make it better is if they would let me join in some of their made-up games, like spin on the bed. Mum says its cause I'm too big and a bit of a bull in a china shop. Anyway, happy Gotcha Day, Veil and Maddy!
Love your big brother, Beckett!

If she was so lonely, why is she wearing a muzzle at our first meeting? |
We went for walks together and got to know each other. |

Three from behind. |
Maddy likes to use me as a head rest. |
More walks. |
Backyard time (Muzzles required, as we get a little competitive.) |
Looks angelic, right? |
A bit of a show-off, with all her obedience training and stuff. |
Love your big brother, Beckett!

Fall Colours
We have been a little slack with our blog lately, but the Veil, Beckett and Maddy said it was time to show off their new "Hope for Hounds" collars.

Veil's Trip to Nanny's
Miss Veil went with me to her "Nanny" and "Grampy"'s house on Sunday. She says the couch passed the inspection and received the greyhound seal of approval.
She is a little embarrassed for me to tell you that she had to be carried up the steps to get in the house. Apparently none of the three entrances were acceptable for the princess to attempt to walk up herself. After the backwards tumble she took down our steps last week, I am surprised she is willing to go up and down them at home.
Mum, I though I asked you NOT to tell that! |
Beckett and Maddy seem to be putting their heads together on how to get Veil back for going without them. I've never seen them lay on a bed together before. Better sleep with both eyes open, Miss Veil.

The Stuffy Mi-grey-shun!
Miss Veil here today to tell you about some strange happenings at our house.
This morning it was only 4 degrees (celcius, of course) and soon it will be time for those Canadian Geese to fly south. We have been having a bit of a migrating issue here with our stuffies and toys.
Every day Mom picks them up and puts them in the toy baskets and when she comes home from work - they have gone to the east side of the house and piled themselves all up in the bedroom. They seem to be trying to get in the closet. Apparently toys migrate west to east!
I am usually (OK, always) asleep when this takes place so I asked Maddy if she had seen or heard anything.
Veil: So Maddy, did you see the toys come in here with us today?
Maddy: Yes, and I tried to wake you up by tugging on the bedskirt of the bed so's not to scare them off. Then that horrible little hedgehog saw me gently pulling on it and he came over and tore it. Now, I know he and I have had issues in the past, but that was uncalled for. Make sure you tell Mom that you saw that, will you.
