The perfect colour Grey
Miss Veil here today...
So I heard Mama and Dad talking about maybe painting the house (well, more Mama talking and Dad pretending to be listening). She asked what colour he thought he would prefer this time, since he has not been a fan of the mustard colour since the day it went on. He said "grey"... now Mama should have just stopped there. Instead, she said "well, what colour grey? Blue-grey? Green-Grey? Brownish-grey?" I could almost see his eyes glaze over and he looked back to the playoffs he was watching.
I thought, I'm a "grey"hound, so I said to Mama, you put down the paint chips, and I will pick the perfect colour grey.
So, after some quiet deliberation (also known as a nap), I picked one from these samples.
Can you guess which one I picked? It must be perfect, after all, it's named after me!

Long Weekend!
This weekend starts off the summer around here (although not officially); it is the first long weekend of the season.
The weather was exceptional beautiful; if anything a little too hot for the hounds, but thinking back to some of those winter days, I'm not going to complain about the temperature. It also seems to have been the kick-off of the bug season; junebugs, blackflies and mosquitoes are out in full force. Oh and Miss Veil's nemesis - the dreaded bees. While we were out for our walk this morning, she heard that familiar buzzing and immediately turned and pulled hard for home and the safety of the house.
So, welcome back Summer! We hope you stick around longer than a few weeks this year!!

Check-ups
All three hounds went for their annual check-ups this week.
Veil: Is it my turn yet? And do I really have to get weighed right out here in the public?
Beckett: I'll take a bag of those treats to go!
Maddy: Another cat! This has been a great week...I love cats. Let's go this way. He's waiting for me...
We are happy to report that everyone passed with flying colours.

Maddy's Day
Where are we going Mom? |
I was even more pleased to see they had a welcome present for me on the back lawn when I got there, but then Momma said the cat was not for me. It belonged to the neighbour...
There is so much action out the front window. My eyes were going every which way. It was exhausting work trying to take it all in.
This is me in front of the little house and kennel that had belonged to my Nanny's dog, Daisy, that passed away recently. |
Momma said she was very proud of me because I was such a good girl and I was only scared of the Grampy man for a couple seconds. Then he gave me some treats and I decided he wasn't scary afterall.
Visiting is fun but exhausting.

Living in the Present
Maddy has scars. When they see her, people have said to me numerous times "she must have been abused" or "she must have been a fighter". To answer them, I could make up something, but that's all it would be, a made-up story, because I don't know what happened to her. The only one around here that knows is Maddy and she's not telling.
What I do know is that Maddy has progressed in leaps and bounds from what she was like a year ago. Watching her has taught me if we stop focusing on the past, it frees up our time to enjoy the present.
Today, she is able to walk past a strange man wearing a hat and glasses, sweeping the end of his driveway with a push-broom; something thich would have caused panic in the past. Now she looks to me for treats. So my pockets may always have dried up bits of cheese or liver or chicken in them, but thats OK with me.
