Up and at 'em

I really, really wanted to sleep in this morning... I woke up once at 5:30, realized it was Saturday and happily went back to sleep until 7:15 when I jumped out of bed like a shot having woken up to that familiar sound of a hound throwing up.  Apparently Maddy's stomach didn't like breakfast being an hour late and retaliated.  Nothing like that to get you going, especially when the yellow bile is hitting the beige carpet.  Add cleaning that up to the to-do list.  Anyway, it turned out to be a beautiful, sunny morning and we got out to enjoy some sunshine.

Winter 2008

I came across these pictures from 4 years ago and I realized that the deer haven't been to visit like this since.  That year was also the only winter that no dog was in residence.

We definitely had a LOT of snow that year, I think they could have walked over the top of the 5 foot fence.

I kind of see a familar face in this one...

Tag - we are it...

We've been tagged by the wonderful Miss Bunny to answer some questions, about ourselves.  Miss Veil agreed to be interviewed with me, so here we go:

1.  Describe yourself in seven words.
Miss Veil: Diva, sweet, fast, devilish, smart, beautiful, sassy.
Me: This is hard - I don't really know what to say.  I hope I'm kind, funny and thoughtful.  I know I'm a worrier, shy and cautious. Above all I'm an animal-lover.

The Chair

Big boys can curl up in chairs too.

This chair was Tuff's favourite spot...the first time Beckett curled up in it, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.  For two totally different breeds of dogs, Beckett does alot of little things that remind me so much of Tuff.

Playtime?

It's another cold weekend, and the hounds are getting cabin fever.  Even with boots and coats, a feels-like temperature -30 C this morning makes wee time a quick "in and out".  Last night, they all went out together and ran around on the snow covered deck for a few minutes to burn off a little energy.  It's funny how different playtime is when all three are together, or when  it is just Veil and Maddy, Veil and Beckett or Maddy and Beckett.  Maddy seems to have the best social skills when it comes to playing and will run around and chase or be chased without any nipping or barking.  She and Beckett have a great time together, and Veil is on her best behaviour when playing with Maddy.  Veil will bark and nip at Beckett when they are running together, and if all three of them are out, Maddy seems to try and keep the other two separated by running between them.

I have been looking back at old photos (pre-digital age) for my "Leap Year Memories"; and I think there is something to be said for those photos in the shoe boxes or envelopes, that you can hold in your hand.

Tuff used to love the run in the snow, and believe me, you got out of the way when he was barrelling towards you.

Leap Year Memories

No, you aren't seeing things.  This month, I'm going to post a few pictures from the past, to honour those "hounds" who started me on the path to being a crazy dog lady  This is Tuff (left) and Holly (right).  February 29th, 4 years ago is the day that Tuff passed away from aspiration pneumonia.  He was ten years old.  Holly had passed over the bridge before him from complications due to Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia.  Since it was leap year then and leap year again, it has been on my mind lately.  They taught me many things, including patience, unconditional love and forgiveness. So I hope you will not mind my sharing a few pictures or stories from the past this month.

Security Breach

Breaking News!!  Greyhound Security System Malfunctions.
The greyhound security system malfunctioned this morning, allowing an unknown intruder to wander freely around the premises.  Chief Maddy, what was the reason for this?
Maddy:  I was undercover at the time, while I had left my second in command, Veil on security detail.  Apparently there was a breakdown in communications as she thought she was also supposed to be undercover.

Beckett was on an important patrol, in the kitchen supervising the cookies being baked.

What we know for sure is that it was a male, of the canine variety, who appeared to be a very nosy guy.  Possibly a peeping tom (for sure a peeing tom).  Beckett has done his best to cover up all the signs of his arrival on the scene – the shrubs, the fence, the siding on the garage, the big tree in the front yard.  It appears from the tracks he left behind that he looked in the front door, went up the back steps, around the garage, behind the fence and across the front yard.

We are not sure what he was looking for but Miss Veil is wondering if he is a fan who saw her modelling her sweater and came calling.

Again, we do not know anything for sure at this time, but will keep you updated if he comes back.
